White Oak has added two new police officers who have roots in the area.
At November’s monthly council meeting, council introduced to the public Officers Cody Stanoszek and Larry Bishop.
Mayor Ina Jean Marton, who earlier had sworn in the officers, said Stanoszek has years of law enforcement experience, including a stint with the Irwin Borough Police Department.
Bishop has 28 years of experience in law enforcement. After retiring from the McKeesport Police Department in 2019, Bishop served for the last six years with the Penn State University Police, Marton said.
With their swearing in, the police department has nine officers plus a chief and borough officials said the hiring process is underway for two additional officers.
In related business, Police Chief Jason Binder, who was appointed in September, told council that a series of renovations they approved in October were earlier completed or due to be completed by the end of November.
Binder said all the carpets in the police department were removed and the flooring was replaced with all-weather flooring. Council in October accepted a bid from L&L Company for $14,950 for that work.
Also accepted in October was a bid from Briggs Construction for $16,510 for the patching, repairing and painting of the police station and chief’s office and the installation of acoustical ceilings in the station and a bid from RC Haywood Refrigeration Services Inc. for $3,000 for electrical and lighting work within the police station and chief’s office.
“The police department hadn’t been renovated in quite a while,” Binder said. “It’s had quite a facelift.”
Binder said new computers were also installed in the department. Council had approved a bid of $11,190 from Shiloh Service Inc. for the computers.
Finally, the police department received a new 2023 black Dodge Charger Pursuit Police Vehicle purchased under the state’s COSTARS Joint Purchasing Program from Shorkey Auto Group for $35,336. Council had also accepted bids of $13,450 from Holzer Specialties for the patrol vehicle’s outfitting and $1,200 from Ibis Tek for the vehicle’s exterior graphics.
Binder said with new addition, the police department now has a fleet of eight vehicles: four SUVs, three Dodge Chargers and one Ford Taurus. Another SUV was recently removed from service, he said.
