How Discussed: Brenda Sawyer grew up in McKeesport in the 1970s and '80s and planned to become a journalist. Instead, she wound up as the city's first African American police officer and now serves as regional director for the state Attorney General's Bureau of Narcotics Investigation and Drug Control. What attracted her to a law enforcement career? Did she face hurdles along the way? How would she encourage women and people of color to pursue a law enforcement career? Sawyer also serves as president of the McKeesport unit of the NAACP.
