Topic: Making neighborhoods more welcoming to older adults

Guest: Cassandra Masters, Assistant Director, Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh

How Topic Discussed: About 17 percent of Pittsburgh area residents are age 65 or older. Age-Friendly Greater Pittsburgh is partnering with three local communities — Clairton, Coraopolis and the Hill District — on an intensive effort to make those neighborhoods better places for older adults to live. Why were those communities selected? What does it mean to make a community "age-friendly"? What are the key focus areas for improvement in transportation, Internet access, dementia care and workforce development? How can other communities make sure they have amenities that help retirees and older adults? How does making sure that a community is "age friendly" benefit other demographic groups?
