EA Serves Up Laughs With ‘Spamalot’

April 01, 2025 |

If you go...

“Spamalot”

Where: East Allegheny High School, 1150 Jacks Run Road, North Versailles Twp.

When: Thursday, April 3 and Friday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m., and two shows on Saturday, April 5, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Tickets: $12 for adult general admission. Senior citizens and students are $10. VIP seating is available for $15. Tickets are available at easd.booktix.com and at the door. There is a processing fee if tickets are purchased online.

The search for the Holy Grail takes a goofy turn as the curtain rises on East Allegheny High School’s production of Spamalot.

The musical is an adaptation of Monty Python’s 1975 movie “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” parodying the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The cast at EA is slightly smaller than in years past, but Musical Director Amanda Rosco says they have been one of the staff’s favorites to work with.

“They have so much heart and it’s something that the audience isn’t necessarily going to know and see how much they have taken care of each other behind the scenes — the way they have cheered each other on,” Rosco says.

Senior Reily Fenters took the musical plunge this year and is making his stage debut. He plays multiple roles, including the Knight Who Says “Ni,” and says he regrets not getting involved sooner, but his afterschool job took up a lot of his time. “I cut my schedule back this year and threw all hands in and was like, ‘I’m just going to do it!’”

North Versailles Twp. commissioners will seek bids to repair the North Versailles Library and Community Center.

The library, located at 1401 Greensburg Ave., has been closed since September 2023 after a building inspection indicated structural damage.

Years of storing road salt in the building's garage space caused cracks to form in the walls. The building has remained closed, due to an abundance of caution, and a temporary site has been operating in the Great Valley Shopping Center in the former Good Samaritan Thrift Store.

A resident survey, distributed in late spring and early summer, was part of the catalyst to get the repairs done as soon as possible. “We got a lot of feedback with that,” said Commissioner Louise Beswick said. “People want their community center and library open.”

A new generation of fans is delivering up the beloved saga of the Rocky movies with their 2024 field show.

The East Allegheny High School Marching Band will perform this exciting soundtrack in front of a local crowd at their home competition this Saturday (Sept. 14) at Churchman Stadium in North Versailles.

EA Band Director Justin Rosco says, "This has been on my bucket list for a long time. I was a big Rocky fan when I was young. This has always been in the back of my mind."

There isn’t a lot in the vault to choose from in terms of arrangements or blueprints for a show of this type. Rosco says they borrowed some ideas from a Drum Corps International show from the early 2000s called “The Contender” but everything else has been a creative effort by staff to bring the story of a small-time boxer from Philly who gets knocked down in life, but with the help of his scrappy manager, always finds a way to get back up.

NVT Commission Rejects Sewer Authority Sale

September 09, 2024 |

After two votes before two standing-room-only gatherings of residents, a proposal which would have seen the operations of the North Versailles Twp. Sanitary Authority taken over by a for-profit company has been officially rejected.

In December, the sanitary authority board voted 5-0 to move forward with an asset purchase agreement with Aqua Pennsylvania Wastewater Inc. Aqua is owned by Essential Utilities Inc. of Bryn Mawr, Montgomery County, the parent company of People’s Gas. It operates in nine states and has more than 3,100 employees.

Under the agreement, Aqua would pay between $25 million and $30 million for the township sewer system, including the pipes and three pumping stations. To take effect, any agreement would need the approval of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission and it was hoped an agreement could be closed by the end of 2024.
