A North Versailles Twp. man is being treated at AHN Forbes Hospital after being struck by a car Wednesday night near Walmart.

Allegheny County police said the driver of the car fled the scene of the accident and was arrested Thursday. Keontae J. Hamilton, 38, is charged by county police with leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, failing to stop and render assistance and failing to notify police.

He was arraigned Friday morning and remains free on his own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing April 8 in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.

Court records list addresses for Hamilton in the east end of Pittsburgh.

According to a criminal complaint, the victim, Frank Scott, 74, was crossing Greensburg Pike near Versailles Castle Apartments on Wednesday just after 8:30 p.m. when he was struck by a dark-colored SUV that was traveling north, toward Turtle Creek.

Scott was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Police said he suffered trauma to the head and torso.

Police said they obtained surveillance video from a nearby camera which showed a vehicle abruptly stop near the intersection of Hyer Avenue, then back up, drive around the victim, and turn right down Hyer, headed toward Wilmerding.

Pieces of the car’s front grille were recovered at the scene and were traced to a 2024 or 2025 Buick, according to the complaint.

According to the complaint, the license number of the SUV was visible and was traced to a Penn Hills woman. Police said they spoke to the owner, who told them she owned a 2024 Buick, but the vehicle was used by her son.

Allegheny County police said that Wilkinsburg police spotted the Buick on Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Bennett and Oakwood streets and took the driver, whom they identified as Hamilton, into custody.

According to the complaint, Hamilton told detectives that a pedestrian had “quickly” walked in front of his vehicle and that he was unable to avoid the collision.

Police said the vehicle that Hamilton was driving had damage to its front bumper, hood and windshield consistent with a collision.
