All of the items are supposed to be “strictly homemade” when the East Allegheny High School Band hosts its next craft show Nov. 15.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school’s indoor court, located at 1150 Jacks Run Road.
There will be 50 vendor tables showcasing handmade items. Each vendor has graciously donated an item for the basket raffle.
Vendor booths include quilters, wood working, resin work, crocheted and knitted items, baked goods, shirts and tumblers. “People look for that personal touch,” said band parent and craft show organizer Toni Lucas.
Lucas’ daughter Anastasia is a junior and plays the trumpet in concert band; Anastasia is the only girl in the trumpet section.
Lucas, who crochets and has been to her fair share of crafts shows, brought the idea to band director Justin Rosco and the board four years ago. “Everybody was on board,” Lucas said. She’s been running it ever since.
“What sells it is the band students,” Lucas added. The high schoolers help the vendors unload their vehicles and take boxes to their tables, then load their vehicles at the end of the day. The band will also get crafters food so they don’t have to leave their table. “Every crafter is appreciative of the kids,” Lucas said.
Lucas added that they try to be sensitive to dietary needs. This year, food options include haluski, pulled pork, hot dogs, drinks, chips and cookies.
Proceeds from the craft show will go toward the cost of band uniforms and instrument repairs.
"This is a successful fundraiser for us and Toni puts a lot of time into planning it,” EA Marching Band Acting President Kristen Keleschenyi said. “The kids help during the event, and we get a good turnout."
This is all-ages event, and admission is free. For questions, contact Toni Lucas at amlucas04@gmail.com. For additional information on the band, visit the East Allegheny Band’s Facebook page.
District rebuilding after concession stand fire
Churchman Stadium’s concession stand was damaged by a fire on Oct. 5. Because of the local fire departments’ quick response, no one was hurt and the fire was confined quickly.
According to the school district’s page, the concession stand plays a vital role in supporting the marching band, athletics and community youth sports, and is a major source of funding that helps provide essential resources for those programs.
Mireille Mobley, the district’s communication specialist, said the website includes updates and information on ways the community can stay involved and support the school’s programs.
“We’re truly grateful for the support our community continues to show,” Mobley said.
Anyone wanting to donate to East Allegheny can submit their contributions via the Concession Stand Donation Form on the school district’s website under “Athletics.”
