A shooting Saturday morning in Duquesne left one young man dead and another hospitalized.
Duquesne police said in a release that officers were dispatched to the corner of Auriles Steet and Viola Alley at 1:18 a.m. when multiple callers reported hearing shots fired.
Upon arrival, police said, they found a white Chevrolet Impala stopped on Newford Alley, with the doors open. Inside the backseat, police found a 15-year-old, suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim, identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office as Daevion Raines, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Clairton man pleaded guilty in federal court to distributing the drugs that led to the death of a local man.
Skyler Carter, 37, faces 20 years to life in prison and up to a $1 million fine, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said in a prepared statement Thursday. U.S. District Judge Arthur J. Schwab scheduled sentencing for Oct. 4 at the federal courthouse in Pittsburgh.
Prosecutors allege that Carter had supplied fentanyl, an opioid painkiller, and cocaine to a co-defendant, Katie Spratt, which Spratt then sold to a victim identified only as "A.B.," causing his overdose death on June 5, 2017.

A Washington County man with ties to West Mifflin is headed to federal prison after prosecutors said he sold heroin while on probation.
Maurice "Reece" Frezzell, 35, faces nearly 29 years in prison after his convictions this week before U.S. District Judges Arthur J. Schwab and David S. Cercone.
U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady called Frezzell "a career criminal and one of the most significant heroin and fentanyl dealers in Washington County" and said that people are "safer today, now that he is behind bars."

Two men are being sought by Allegheny County police in connection with the death Tuesday night of a teen-ager in McKeesport.
Khaire Charles Cole, 17, of North Versailles Twp. died just before midnight at UPMC Presbyterian hospital in Oakland of a gunshot wound to the head, the Allegheny County medical examiner's office said.
His death has been ruled a homicide, a spokesperson said Wednesday night.
Another victim was wounded in the altercation, Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said in a prepared statement. The second victim's name was not released. He was listed in stable condition and is expected to recover.

A McKeesport man led city police on a brief car chase Wednesday afternoon before being arrested at the home of his girlfriend.
Harry Hobson, 55, is charged by McKeesport police with fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, careless driving, driving with a suspended license and failing to stop at a stop sign. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
City police said an officer was monitoring traffic just after 12 noon in Myer Park when a car headed eastbound on Myer Boulevard failed to stop for a stop sign.

Three people are currently being held in Allegheny County Jail on charges that include attempted homicide in connection with a shooting Dec. 17 on Penny Street in the city.
Two of the suspects were ordered held for court this week following a preliminary hearing, while an alleged accomplice faces formal arraignment next week in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court.
Following a preliminary hearing Monday, Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi ordered Aaron W. Smith, 24, of Pittsburgh's West End, and Cortrell L. McKenzie, 24, of Pitcairn, both held for court on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, robbery, conspiracy, carrying a firearm without a license, theft by unlawful taking and reckless endangerment.

It took less than a half-hour for a federal jury to convict two former Mon Valley men in connection with what prosecutors described as a "robbery spree."
Kahlil Shelton, 23, of Duquesne, and Deron Howell, 25, of Swissvale, are scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 1 by U.S. District Judge Billy Roy Wilson in Pittsburgh.
Both could face life sentences, a spokeswoman for U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said Monday.

Allegheny County and local police are again teaming up with UPMC Health System, other agencies and private businesses to take unused prescription drugs off the streets.
The 14th annual National Take-Back Initiative, sponsored by the federal Drug Enforcement Agency, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 28.
Law-enforcement and health officials say that unused prescription drugs --- especially painkillers --- are often abused by people to whom they weren't originally prescribed. And drugs disposed of improperly can pose a danger to birds, fish and other wildlife.
In the Mon-Yough area, drug collection sites will be available at UPMC McKeesport hospital, East Pittsburgh, Wilmerding, Clairton, Pleasant Hills, West Mifflin and the North Huntingdon Twp. town house.

The special meeting is slated for 6 to 8 p.m. April 25 in the Duquesne School District Auditorium on Kennedy Avenue.

Two local men have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges they tampered with railroad signals.
The indictment, unsealed Wednesday, accuses William C. Brown, 24, of Elizabeth and Brandon E. Peck, 24, of Glassport of damaging railroad signals and equipment, U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady said in a prepared release.
According to the indictment, federal prosecutors claim that Brown cut cables on railroad signal antennas on a CSX equipment shack on Nov. 1. Prosecutors further claim that Brown and Peck returned the following day to remove the antennas.
Federal officials did not say where the incident occurred, but that it happened on a CSX Railroad line that is also used by Amtrak, within Allegheny County.
