Man Dead After Alleged Abduction, Police Standoff

A McKeesport man is dead after what Allegheny County police are describing as a standoff following an abduction.

Andre Williams Jr., 20, died this morning in Swissvale after county police said he shot himself in the head with a handgun, said the Allegheny County medical examiner's office, which will perform an autopsy.

Allegheny County police Superintendent Coleman McDonough said in a prepared statement that the county homicide unit is investigating and would like to speak to anyone with information about the incident. Investigators may be reached at (412) 473-1300.

Police said the incident began just after 2 a.m. in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood when callers to Allegheny County 9-1-1 reported a violent domestic dispute was in progress in a home there.

Pittsburgh police arrived and determined that a 19-year-old woman and her infant child had been abducted, county police said. Pittsburgh police notified Swissvale police that a Ford Explorer believed to be involved in the incident may have headed to their borough.

An infant is in foster care after McKeesport police responding to a reported heroin overdose discovered the child living in what officers described as "deplorable" conditions.

According to an incident report, McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service paramedics and city police were dispatched to a home on Banker Street at 9:39 a.m. March 12 for a suspected overdose. When they arrived, paramedics were able to revive the overdose victim, 20, with a dose of the antidote Narcan.

Two Dead After Possible Murder-Suicide in Turtle Creek

Two people are dead following a shooting this morning in Turtle Creek. Police believe it may have been a murder-suicide.

A spokesman for the Allegheny County police said Turtle Creek police and paramedics were dispatched to the Electric Heights Housing Association complex off of Harper Drive at 5:10 a.m. when a caller to 9-1-1 reported two people had been shot.

Emergency workers found a man and woman inside a residence in the 100 block of Watson Drive, suffering from gunshot wounds to the head, police said. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victims as Sarah Villarreal, 34, and Daniel Connelly, 43.

Medical Examiner, Police Probe Child's Death

Allegheny County police homicide detectives and the medical examiner's office are investigating the death of a 2-year-old girl at a home on Evans Avenue in the city.

However, officials said there were no signs of foul play or neglect.

A spokeswoman said in a prepared statement that McKeesport police and McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service were dispatched at 7:20 a.m. Sunday to a house in the 500 block of Evans Avenue when a 9-1-1 caller reported the little girl was not moving or breathing. The child was pronounced dead at the scene by McKeesport paramedics, the spokeswoman said.

Homicide detectives were requested to assist and conducted several interviews. The investigation continues and cause and manner of death will be released pending an autopsy, the spokeswoman said.

 

Two Local Postal Workers Indicted in Mail Theft Cases

Two Mon Valley postal workers were indicted by federal grand juries in Pittsburgh this week on charges they stole from envelopes they were supposed to be delivering.

In the first case, federal prosecutors have accused former U.S. Postal Service employee Gregory M. Schur, 36, of 211 Harden Ave., Duquesne, of stealing prescription medication that was sent to customers of the VA Healthcare System, as well as first-class letters containing U.S. currency.

The alleged thefts occured between May and August 2016, said a spokeswoman for Soo C. Song, acting U.S. attorney in Pittsburgh.

City Man Dead in Mansfield Bridge Crash

A McKeesport man died early Sunday morning after an automobile accident on the Glassport side of the Mansfield Bridge.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said John Ross, 60, was pronounced dead at 1:21 a.m. Sunday at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following the 12:52 a.m. crash.

Glassport police are investigating, the medical examiner's office said. No further details were released.

 

Body Found is That of Man Missing Since 2012

The "skeletal remains" found Thursday night off of Washington Street in the East End are those of a Penn Hills man who has been missing for almost five years.

A spokeswoman for the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said the remains have been identified as belonging to Dominick Brown-Hill, who was 21 when he disappeared.

Police said the remains were found in a small, wooded area behind the 900 block of Washington Street.

Brown-Hill was last seen March 22, 2012, when police said he took a jitney cab from his home on Althea Drive in Penn Hills to McKeesport. According to published reports, Brown-Hill asked the driver to drop him off at an apartment building.

Police Seek Leads in January Slaying

McKeesport and Allegheny County police are asking for the public's help in solving the murder of 21-year-old Jesi Jefferson.

Jefferson's body was discovered on the morning of Jan. 11 in the 1300 block of Hilty Alley by sanitation crews making their rounds, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were called to the area on the night of Jan. 10 for a report of "shots fired," but didn't locate any victims, and speculate Jefferson may have been shot at that time.

Anyone with information concerning is asked to call Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers at (412) 255-8477. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of individuals wanted for featured crimes. Callers may remain anonymous.

 

'Skeletal Remains' Found in City's East End

Police and the Allegheny County medical examiner are investigating the discovery of what were described as "skeletal remains" on Washington Street in McKeesport's East End.

A county spokeswoman said McKeesport police responded just after 7 p.m. Thursday when a caller to 9-1-1 emergency dispatch reported that "a body" had been found in the 900 block.

No other details were released Thursday night.
