County Police Investigating Crestas Terrace Shooting

Two men were wounded this morning in a shooting in North Versailles Twp.'s Crestas Terrace neighborhood, Allegheny County police said.

Township police were dispatched at 4:15 a.m. to Crestas Avenue after shots were fired at a car driven by Devon Jeter, 32, of McKeesport. Jeter and his passenger, Rashad Rowe, 37, also of McKeesport were injured and taken by ambulance to Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville, county police said.

Former Office Manager Sentenced in Fraud

A Glassport woman will serve 18 months in prison and pay restitution of nearly $250,000 after pleading guilty to defrauding her employer and the government.

Deborah A. Mattie, 48, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gustave Diamond, U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton said.

Mattie is a former office manager for Finney Funeral Homes, court officials said. In January, she pleaded guilty to felony counts of forging checks, access device fraud and theft of government property, according to a spokeswoman for Hickton.

Route 51 Motel Owner Murdered; County Police Seek Clues

County police are investigating the shooting death of the owner of a Route 51 motel and roadside landmark.

Allegheny County Police said officers responding to a 9-1-1 emergency call at 4:15 a.m. today found the victim behind the front desk of the Jefferson Hills Motel in Jefferson Hills, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Although the victim's name was not released, he was identified as the 78-year-old "owner of the establishment."

Property tax records list the owner of the Jefferson Hills Motel as Dehnad "Danny" Taiedi, also known as "Chief." He and his late wife, Linda, purchased the hotel in 2001 for $250,000.

Police said it appears that Taiedi was the victim of a robbery before the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Homicide Unit at (412) 473-1300. Callers can remain anonymous.

Crime Stoppers Seeks Help in Solving January Murder

Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers is asking for the public's help in finding the person or persons responsible for the killing of Eric Johnson Jr. of McKeesport.

Johnson was one of two people shot on the evening of Jan. 30 --- a Saturday --- in the 1800 block of Evans Avenue. The other shooting victim was taken to the hospital and survived, but Johnson, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police received a call at 7:52 p.m. reporting that two people had been shot. When they arrived, they found two people --- including Johnson --- in a 2004 Jeep Cherokee, suffering from gunshot wounds.

Detectives recovered 20 spent shell casings at the scene, a spokeswoman for Crime Stoppers said.

Johnson, a McKeesport Area High School graduate, worked at the Salvation Army of McKeesport and left behind his parents, Eric Johnson Sr. and Darlene Stuvaints, along with brothers, a sister, a grandmother, and a great-grandfather, along with nieces and nephews.

Anyone with information concerning Johnson's shooting is asked to call Pittsburgh Crime Stoppers at (412) 255-TIPS. A reward of up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of individuals wanted for featured crimes. Callers may remain anonymous.

City Woman Indicted in Social Security Case

A McKeesport woman was indicted this week and charged with theft of U.S. government property.

U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton said that Social Security benefits for a deceased person was deposited into a bank account held by Karen Bosnak, 52, after that person's death.

The one-count indictment alleges that $13,970 in benefits were deposited between November 2013 and September 2014.

The law provides for a maximum total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both, Hickton said. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul E. Hull is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the Office of Inspector General of the U.S. Social Security Administration.
