DJs Candy and Mike will spin the tunes on March 9 and 30 when American Legion Gen. Smedley D. Butler Post 701 in White Oak holds its next oldies dances.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and music continues until 11 p.m., a spokesman said. Admission is $5 and all proceeds benefit veterans' programs.

White Oak Zoning Hearing Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. March 7 to consider a request for a variance at 2908 McClintock Road.
Councilman Ed Babyak said the property owner wants to construct a five-foot fence to partially enclose their property.
Borough council will hold workshop meetings at 6:45 p.m. March 11 and 18. The March 18 workshop will be followed by the regularly scheduled council meeting at 8 p.m. Those meetings are open to the public.
The next meeting for members of the Active Shooter/Hostile Event working group will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. March 20, Councilman Ken Robb said.

Two homes slated for demolition by White Oak Borough have been granted temporary reprieves as their owners make improvements.
At a public hearing before February's council meeting, owners of properties at 1828 California Ave. and 608 Osborne St. were granted additional extensions to obtain their occupancy permits.
The extensions came at the recommendation of at the recommendation of borough Code Enforcement Officer Brian Dinkfelt, who said that each of those properties have been considerably improved since being recommended for demolition in August.

White Oak council has given its approval for the transfer of a vacant house on Ohio Avenue to the Tri-COG Land Bank.
The one-story home at 1808 Ohio will only be transferred if McKeesport Area School District and Allegheny County consent, said Dave Pasternak, White Oak council president.
Pasternak said he's hopeful that the transfer, if approved, will result in the house being refurbished and sold to a new owner. According to county tax records, the house has been tax-delinquent for several years.

White Oak Council has moved to file municipal liens for nearly a half-million dollars in delinquent garbage accounts.
At their January meeting, council members authorized the law firm of Dodaro, Matta and Cambest to file liens for unpaid garbage collection fees from the past three years. Filing the liens will cost $19,938.08.
Last month, council authorized borough officials to "scrub" the delinquent accounts to remove the names of demolished properties and deceased residents, so that officials could determine which accounts were still active.

A White Oak man was hospitalized following a two-hour standoff with police and the Allegheny County SWAT team.
No charges have been filed but the investigation remains open, White Oak police Chief Mark Sargent said.
Police were dispatched to a home on State Street just before 4 a.m. Wednesday when callers reported a 20-year-old man living there was suicidal.
As officers entered the front door, Sargent said, they heard a shot from the second floor.

With delinquent garbage accounts now in excess of $461,000, White Oak borough officials are urging residents to pay up, and are planning further action.
At council's December meeting, White Oak Councilman Steve Phloar said that residents who have not made their annual trash collection payment of $240 must do so by the close of business on Dec. 31 to avoid a penalty.
If the borough office is closed, a drop box is available in the lobby on the Lincoln Way side of the building for resident convenience. Reminder notices were sent earlier this month, he said.

The 2019 budget for White Oak Borough introduced at Monday's council meeting reflects no tax increase.
A special council meeting is slated for 7 p.m. on Dec. 27 for the purpose of adopting the budget. The meeting is open to the public.
The current property tax rate is 6.41 mills. Borough property taxes for a home assessed at $100,000 would be $641 annually.
In other business, Mayor Ina Jean Marton wished all residents a Merry Christmas and a safe, happy New Year and thanked everyone who participated in the borough’s first Toys for Tots collection.
“We collected five overflowing boxes,” Marton said. “Everyone was very generous.”

The Mon Yough Chorale will proudly present its annual Christmas concert, "A Chorale Christmas," at 3 p.m. Dec. 16 at Sampson's Mills Presbyterian Church, 1665 Lincoln Way, White Oak.
Tickets are $8 and available at the door, a spokeswoman said. A cookie reception will follow.
The chorale (formerly the Mon Yough Community Singers) also will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday (Dec. 13) at Monroeville Mall on the Lower Level, near Dick's Sporting Goods.
