A "cash bash," tennis tournament, 5K race and fun run, and a golf outing are the highlights of a four-day fundraiser in July for the McKeesport Hospital Foundation.

The 41st annual Dr. Frank R. Bondi Invitational begins with a "cash bash" at 6 p.m. July 27 at the Boston Spectrum in Elizabeth Twp. Tickets cost $20 and include admission, dinner and a number for cash drawings held every 15 minutes.

On July 28, a doubles round-robin tennis tournament will be held at The Racquet Club in Monroeville. Tickets for the tournament are $100 and include prizes, trophies, snacks and dinner. The tournament begins at 12:30 p.m.

July 29, a 5K "race for recovery" and kids' fun run will be held on the campus of Penn State Greater Allegheny. Registration for the 5K begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race gets underway at 9 a.m. The kids' run for ages 12 and younger begins at 9:45 a.m.

Registration for the 5K costs $25 until June 24 ($30 afterwards) and registration for the kids' run is $10.

The golf outing July 30 caps the four-day weekend of events. Tickets are $250 per person with a choice of 7:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. start times on the course at Youghiogheny Country Club, Elizabeth Twp.

For $350, golfers can participate in both rounds. Tickets to the dinner only are $100.

Bondi, the event's namesake, was a prominent surgeon in the McKeesport area before his death in 1992. A graduate of McKeesport High School and the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Bondi joined the staff of McKeesport Hospital in 1935 and eventually became its medical director.

He served on a variety of volunteer boards for the American Cancer Society and established the hospital's surgical residency training program. Away from medicine, Bondi in 1962 also established a scholarship fund for students in the Elizabeth Forward School District.

The McKeesport Hospital Foundation is a charitable organization that raises money to support health, education and safety issues in the Mon Valley, and oversees the Mon River Fleet Pennsylvania State Health Improvement Plan partnerships in Braddock, Clairton, Duquesne and McKeesport.
