A band that describes itself as "a perfect mix of Caribbean, Latin, reggae and American Top 40" will rock Renziehausen Park before what organizers hope will be a perfect mix of fireworks for Independence Day.

Zoot Island --- made up of members of the Dr. Zoot swing band --- will take the stage at the Lions Bandshell at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The concert is sponsored by the McKeesport Lions Club, the Allegheny Regional Asset District, the city of McKeesport and Mayor Michael Cherepko. Admission is free but attendees should bring a blanket or chair to sit on.

Zoot Island performs a mix of summertime favorites, including Jimmy Buffett tunes, classic rock and oldies, sing-a-long hits and beach party tunes.

Fireworks by Ace Pyro LLC of Manchester, Mich., will follow the concert.

On Sunday, 8th Street Rox performs at Renzie at 7 p.m. as part of the summer concert series, while The Marcels perform on July 15.

A spokeswoman for the McKeesport Lions said the club continues to collect gently used eyeglasses for reuse for people on limited incomes, and in foreign countries.

In addition, McKeesport Lions members also are now collecting hats and caps to be sent overseas. Caps and eyeglasses may be brought to any concert and deposited in the collection bin.
