A man who was found dead Sunday morning alongside a highway in the Dixon Hollow area of North Versailles Twp. was likely shot inside a car, police said.

The victim was identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office as Zack Moore, 28, no address given. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Allegheny County police Lt. Andrew Schurman said township police and paramedics were dispatched to East Pittsburgh-McKeesport Boulevard just after 5:30 a.m. Sunday after a 9-1-1 caller reported that a man was lying on the road near Dixon Avenue.

Police arrived and found the victim, who had suffered at least one gunshot wound to the head, Schurman said.

Detectives from the county homicide unit are investigating, he said. Moore did not have any identification on him when he was found, Schurman said.

Investigators believe Moore was inside a car when he was shot, and then pushed from the vehicle, Schurman said.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Allegheny County Police Tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477), he said. Callers can remain anonymous.

County police also can be reached via Facebook and Twitter.
