Two new council members were sworn in at Tuesday’s Duquesne city council meeting.

Terra Henderson-Murphy (above) and Elaine Washington were sworn in by Magisterial District Judge Scott Schricker after motions were passed unanimously to name them to council.

Additionally, a motion was passed naming Sidney Walker as the city’s new zoning officer.

Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to make the office of mayor a full-time position, beginning in 2021, at a salary of $65,000.

One Duquesne resident cautioned council that making the change also will require a change to the city charter as well.

In other business, city council approved a fraud, waste and abuse policy. The policy will clarify the ability of Duquesne officials to discipline, suspend or terminate of any staff, employee or vendor who misuses city funds or property, or who threatens or abuses any other individual, family or their property, city officials said.
