Mon Valley business owners --- and people hoping to start a business --- are being encouraged to attend a free networking event and workshop Oct. 18 at Penn State Greater Allegheny in McKeesport.

The Mon Valley Business Development Expo is being sponsored by PurePenn, the Mon Yough Area Chamber of Commerce and Penn State, a spokeswoman said. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the Ostermayer Room of the campus' Student Community Center. Breakout sessions will follow from 9 to 11:30 a.m., with a procurement fair from 1 to 3 p.m., following a lunch break.

For more information or to RSVP, contact Gina Rosso at gina@purepenn.com.

Morning workshops will include information on how to incorporate, obtain small business loans, manage cash flow, master marketing techniques and obtain diversity certification.

Each presentation will be about a half-hour long and will be free of charge, according to Rosso.

The afternoon networking fair will enable direct business-to-business networking between companies who are looking to procure goods or services with potential suppliers or vendors, Rosso said.

PurePenn is involved because the company wants to help support, and network with, local businesses, said Gabe Perlow, the company's CEO.

“We’re proud of our involvement with the local business community in the year since we established our facility in McKeesport,” he said. “This business development expo is another step toward cementing growth and stability for our neighbors who also own and operate diverse businesses here.”

Businesses that want to participate in the networking fair must contact Rosso before Oct. 11 at gina@purepenn.com or by calling 412-491-5289.
