A Duquesne man was killed Wednesday night while crossing the McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge.

Albert J. Vavra, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Allegheny County medical examiner's office said.

Police said Vavra was on foot, crossing the traffic lanes, just after 6 p.m. when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The motorist, who was not identified, immediately stopped and called 9-1-1, police said.

The accident is under investigation. No further details were released.
