With an assist from McKeesport City Electrician Tom Rosso and other employees, crews from McKeesport-based Fort Pitt Flagpole Co. installed one of their namesake products outside city hall last week.
The flagpole is the first to grace the grounds of McKeesport City Hall, located in the former McKeesport National Bank Building at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Sinclair Street, Downtown.
City offices moved to the building from the old municipal building in 2006 when the structure --- a registered National Historic Landmark --- was donated by its then-owner, Sky Bank.
The police station and a fire station remain at the old municipal building, corner of Lysle Boulevard and Market Street, along with city council chambers and a constituent service center for state Sen. Jim Brewster.
The flag is currently at half-staff in honor of former President George H.W. Bush, who died Nov. 30. President Trump and Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf asked all U.S. and state flags at official government buildings to be flown at half-staff as a measure of respect for the former president until Jan. 1.
