Weekly Meetings Underway as NV Twp. Plans 150th Celebration

Weekly meetings are now underway at 6 p.m. Tuesdays for North Versailles residents interested in planning the township's 150th anniversary celebration.
At the February meeting, Commissioner Tracey Yusko reported that the two-day celebration will include a parade on Aug. 1, followed by an event at the Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportsmen's Club on Route 48, including bands, fireworks, rides and activities for children, as well as food trucks and community tables.
Yusko said she expects the event will have “the feel of a community picnic.”
In other business:
Commissioners voted 6-0 to authorize the township solicitor to begin legal clearance proceedings for demolition of properties at 109 Westinghouse Ave., 91 Port Perry Ave., 1704 Girard Ave., and 115 and 123 Versailles Ave. Commissioner George Beswick was absent.
A motion to authorize the engineer to solicit quotes for asbestos testing for the five properties also was approved.
Commissioners approved a motion to accept a bid in the amount of $74,277 from Sports & Recreation Associates of Armstrong County, for renovations at Fairhaven Park renovations using grant funding. Another bid for $32,704 for additional park renovations from Sports & Recreation Associates also was approved.
Police and Fire Report: During January, North Versailles Twp. police department received 716 calls, made 24 arrests and housed four inmates from East McKeesport and four from Turtle Creek. Firefighters from the Fire Department of North Versailles answered 43 calls, while Crestas VFC answered 10 calls.
