Allegheny County police have named a suspect in connection with a shooting on Route 837 in Duquesne that sent a motorist to the hospital.

In a prepared statement, county police Sgt. Venerando Costa said Tarone T. Jones (above), 39, of North Versailles Twp. is wanted in connection with the shooting May 3 of a 30-year-old man near the intersection of Route 837 and Grant Street.

On Tuesday, a warrant was issued for Jones' arrest by Magisterial District Judge Scott Schricker. Jones is charged with aggravated assault and attempted homicide.

The victim's name has not been released by police.

The incident happened at around 10:30 a.m. Police said the victim stopped for a traffic light on Route 837 at the intersection with Grant Street, got out of his car and approached another vehicle on foot.

Following an argument with the occupants of that vehicle, the victim was shot once in the abdomen, and the other vehicle fled toward Homestead, police said.

A man and a woman were seen in the vehicle as it fled the scene, police said.

Jones was described by police as 6-feet-1, and weighing 255 pounds.

Anyone with information about Jones' whereabouts is asked to call the Allegheny County police tipline at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Callers may remain anonymous. County police also may be reached via Twitter and Facebook.
