NV Twp. Commissioners OK Support Letter to Land Trust

North Versailles Twp. commissioners have lent their support to an effort to purchase the former Churchill Valley Country Club for use as green space.

At their August meeting, commissioners authorized township manager Patricia Logo to send a letter to Allegheny Land Trust backing the group's effort. The club closed more than 10 years ago. The land trust has proposed preserving the property in part to help curtail flooding in the area.

In other business, township commissioners:

Approved hiring Henry Rizzo as the Road Department Superintendent at a rate of $30 per hour, with no benefits, beginning Aug. 19 with a three-month probation period.

Increased the amount of reimbursement for healthcare for the road department, dispatchers and office personal from $1,400 to $1,615.82 due to an error in calculation.

Approved the purchase of a new diesel tank for the Road Department at a cost of $3,593.42.

Accept a bid from South Hills Area Council of Governments for salt purchases for the 2019/2020 season at a rate of $82.24 per ton.

Approved a change to the township's 2019 Paving Project, reducing the contract price from $227,596.95 to $216,610.95.

Authorized the township manager to advertise an ordinance amending the North Versailles Twp. police pension plan to offer a deferred retirement option plan. The ordinance will be considered by commissioners at their September meeting.

Police and Fire Report:

During July 2019, North Versailles Twp. police department received 816 calls, made 22 arrests and housed 10 inmates from Turtle Creek and seven inmates from East McKeesport, no information was available for inmates housed from East Pittsburgh, according to Commissioner Russell Saula.

Commissioners voted to approve payments in the amount of $5,668.97 to West Wilmerding VFC from the 2018 Fire Tax Money and $3,452.05 for Crestas VFC from the 2019 Fire Tax Money, Saula said.
