A Wilmerding man was charged following a shooting Friday morning in the borough.
Darrell Pettis, 37, is charged by Allegheny County police with unlawful possession of a firearm and tampering with physical evidence. He is free in lieu of $20,000 bond pending a preliminary hearing Dec. 5 before Magisterial District Judge Roxanne Sakoian Eichler.
County police and Eastern Area Ambulance were dispatched just before 9 a.m. Monday to a residence on Watkins Avenue when callers reported a 28-year-old male had been shot on the front porch.
In a prepared statement, county police Sgt. Michael Caruso said the victim was shot in the upper right leg and upper right arm and was transported to Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville for treatment. The victim's name was not released by police.
Investigators believe that a dispute between the victim and Pettis escalated into a physical altercation that resulted in the shots being fired, Caruso said.
Several firearms were recovered at the scene, police said.
Detectives are conducting a further investigation into the shooting incident, Caruso said, and will consult with the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office to determine if any additional charges should be filed.
