A driver accused of rear-ending a woman's car in Christy Park on Christmas Eve, and then fleeing the scene, has been charged by McKeesport police.

Jason Brakeall, 24, of North Versailles Twp. faces a preliminary hearing Feb. 3 before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi in McKeesport on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving a vehicle without valid registration and insurance.

McKeesport police said the victim was headed north on Walnut Street and had stopped in traffic near the corner of 31st Avenue just before 6 p.m. Dec. 24 when her car was struck from behind by a red Kia sedan.

The Kia then fled the scene, police said. A witness told police the car had suffered heavy front-end damage and was being driven by a white male.

A few minutes later, police found the bumper of a red car in the 2900 block of Rockwood Street, and then found the heavily damaged car parked in front of a home on 29th Avenue.

According to a police report, a man whom police identified as Brakeall came out of the house and told officers that "a friend" had been driving the car and was involved in an accident.

Police said Brakeall was arrested and taken to UPMC McKeesport hospital for a blood test, and his vehicle was towed from the scene. He remains free on his own recognizance pending the preliminary hearing.

It was unknown whether the other driver was injured.
