Allegheny County police are asking for the public's help in solving the shooting Friday night of a 23-year-old man on Soles Street.

In a prepared release, county police said McKeesport police were dispatched just after 10 p.m. to the intersection of Soles and Colfax streets when callers to 9-1-1 reported hearing shots fired, and that a car had collided with a utility pole.

The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to the hospital by private vehicle with a grazing wound to the head, county police Inspector Andrew Schurman said. The man's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, he said.

Detectives learned the victim was leaving a relative's home had just gotten into his car when two unknown individuals began shooting at him, Schurman said. The victim put the car into reverse to escape the shooting but struck the utility pole, then got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, he said.

The victim was able to flag down a passing motorist who transported the victim to the hospital, Schurman said.

The motive for the shooting is not clear, he said.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Allegheny County police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS (1-833-255-8477). Callers may remain anonymous.
