North Versailles Twp. commissioners will express their support for the Tobacco Free Allegheny campaign.

At the August meeting, Township Manager Patricia Logo was directed to draft a letter of support for Tobacco Free Allegheny, notifying the campaign that North Versailles prohibits smoking in township parks and around public buildings.

In other business, commissioners approved payments to the West Wilmerding VFC in the amount $6,749.64 from the 2019-20 Fire Tax Money and to the Crestas VFC in the amount of $15,943.83.

The township has received two grants for the sewer authority, Commissioner George Thompson reported. Awards were received in the amount of $146,942 for the Star Alley Lane sewer replacement and $200,000 for the Crestas Pump Station improvements.

According to a spokesman for state Sen. Jim Brewster of McKeesport, the money for those projects is coming from the state’s Commonwealth Financing Authority through its Small Water and Sewer and H2O programs, respectively.

At the request of the police department, Township Engineer Dave Gilliland will prepare weight-limit studies on 11 township roads. There are a number of roads where large vehicles are damaging medians and road surfaces, including Aldi Drive and sections of Route 30, officials said.

The township's minimum municipal obligation for the Police Pension Plan has been set at $426,624.00 for 2021, commissioners reported.
