Beginning Monday, appointments can be made at a new drive-up COVID-19 testing site scheduled to open in the city.

Persons with valid email addresses will be able to schedule their appointment by going to the county’s website, a county spokeswoman said.

People without email access may call (412) 209-2262 during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday) to schedule a next-day appointment.

The testing center is being created inside a vacant portion of the Industrial Center of McKeesport, along Industry Road, near the building once occupied by EchoStar. It is scheduled to begin operations at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Access is available from the flyover ramp at Coursin Street or the railroad crossings at Huey Street and Center Street.

Tests will only be available by appointment, the county said, and only 250 tests will be done each day.

Residents may be tested at the site if they have symptoms of COVID-19; have been in contact with someone that has COVID-19; work in a nursing home or long-term care facility; are a critical infrastructure worker, health care worker, or first responder; are a high-risk patient and have recently attended a gathering of 10 or more people; or live in a shelter or single-room occupancy.

People being tested will be stay in their cars and administer the test to themselves. In most cases will receive results within 48 hours, according to the county.

Persons unable to drive to the site, or who cannot give themselves the test, should call 1 (888) 856-2774 for more information.

Other Mon-Yough area testing sites include MedExpress on Route 51 in Pleasant Hills, the McKeesport Family Health Center on Lysle Boulevard, Steel Valley Family Health Center on West Street in Munhall, and Braddock Family Health Center on Braddock Avenue.

A map of test sites in Allegheny County is available at the health department’s website.
