In its first week of operation, a drive-through COVID-19 testing site at the Industrial Center of McKeesport served more than 180 people, county officials said.

Up to 250 people per day can be tested at the site, located just off of Lysle Boulevard, officials said. Samples are taken by courier daily to a state lab in Harrisburg, they said, and results of most tests will be available in 48 hours or less.

Persons who want to be tested may schedule an appointment online, or by calling (412) 209-2262 during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).

Although pre-registration is encouraged, no one is turned away, said Amie Downs, county spokeswoman.

The testing is made possible by funding from the federal coronavirus stimulus bill that was allocated directly to the county with support from the state.

To be eligible for testing at the McKeesport site, individuals must meet one of the following criteria:

• Have symptoms of COVID-19
• Have been in contact with someone that has COVID-19
• Work in a nursing home or long-term care facility
• Are a critical infrastructure worker, health-care worker or first responder
• Are a high-risk patient and have recently attended a gathering of 10 or more people, or
• Live in a shelter or single room occupancy.

Testing is prioritized for persons who work or live in Allegheny County. Any person age 3 or older can be tested provided that they meet the criteria listed above. Children between the age of 3 and 15 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to be tested.

Those who are unable to drive to the site, or cannot self-administer a test, can contact the COVID-19 Hotline at 1-888-856-2774 for additional options and resources.
