Upcoming events and news of several new businesses topped the agenda at this month’s meeting of the North Versailles Twp. commissioners.
Commissioner Allen Wagner said there will be an open house at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 25 for Walkers Pet HoTail’s new location at 1751 Lincoln Highway.
In addition, a slag reclamation plant is being developed near the George Westinghouse Bridge and has received all of the necessary permits. The business will take slag and convert it into road construction material that can be used in concrete and asphalt, officials said.
Commissioner Tracey Yusko thanked township police and the volunteer fire departments for their help with the recent East Allegheny High School homecoming parade.
Due to crowd restrictions in place, the typical festivities before the high school football game were not possible. Instead, the school district worked in conjunction with first responders on Oct. 8 to provide safe transport of the parade vehicles containing students and staff through the communities of the district, she said.
In other business, commissioners approved a one-year extension to the trash collection contract with Big’s Sanitation. There is no rate increase. They also voted to extend the labor contract with unionized dispatchers and clerks for one year with a 2 percent wage increase.
The commissioners authorized a $1,997 payment to West Wilmerding volunteer fire department from the 2020 fire tax fund, and $1,648 to Crestas volunteer fire department.
Commissioners also released $46,315.58 from the 2020 Volunteer Fire Relief Money to cover expenses for their self-contained breathing equipment for the township’s three fire companies.
Commissioners approved purchase of an additional camera at Crestas Park in the amount of $919.19.
