‘Goodie bags’ to be distributed Saturday
North Versailles Public Library is the latest institution to join Inquire Within, a partnership between local libraries and Pittsburgh’s WQED-TV to share resources from the nation’s public broadcasting service.
The TV station and Gateway Health Plan will welcome North Versailles Twp. to the “Inquire Within” program with a goodie bag distribution at the library from 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday (May 22), a spokesman said.
George Hazimanolis, the station’s senior director of corporate communications, said Inquire Within provides PBS educational programming content to local libraries to enable them to create family-friendly events and programming for children and parents.
The partnership is made possible with financial support from Gateway Health Plan, Hazimanolis said.
Inquire Within launched in October 2016 at Peters Twp. Library in Washington County and now includes 42 libraries throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
Participating libraries choose from a variety of program options including “watch parties” and discussions of PBS educational programming, screenings and premieres of national programs, and free smart-phone apps for parents, with training on how to use them.
WQED-TV also provides librarians with training and material specific to each exercise, Hazimanolis said.
Inquire Within is designed to encourage family engagement and love of learning through hands-on, family centered activities, he said.
The “goodie bags” being provided on Saturday will include content and material from popular PBS Kids programming including “FETCH! With Ruff Ruffman,” “Nature Cat” and “Splash & Bubbles,” as well as snacks, books and other surprises.
The bags will also include information about the library’s summer reading program along with tattoos, bookmarks and stickers.
The library is located at 1401 Greensburg Ave. For more information, visit www.northversailleslibrary.org.
