After more than a year of COVID-19 restrictions, North Versailles Twp. officials are preparing to re-open facilities to the public.

At May’s meeting, township commissioners said the municipal building and community center will begin welcoming residents inside again on June 1.

The announcement came after when an inquiry was made about starting up the weekly North Versailles Seniors Group bingo, with was held each Thursday at the community center before the beginning of the pandemic.

“The whole [municipal] building is opening up, including the sanitary authority to take garbage payments,” said Patricia Logo, township manager. “We’re not requiring masks. We're following the same guidelines as the state and other places. If you are vaccinated you don’t need to, but if you are not, we’d appreciate it.”

Social distancing is encouraged at the community center and the total number of people allowed — for now — is 75 persons, or 50 percent building capacity.

Sallie Kaser, president of the seniors group, said they are looking to start the bingo back up later in June. Kaser said while the people that come enjoy playing bingo, it’s the face-to-face interaction they’ve missed most of all.

“It’ll be nice to get back together,” Kaser said.

The North Versailles Library is planning to re-open very soon and patrons are asked to keep checking the website and social media for updates. For the time being, curbside pickup and drop off is still required, officials said.

In other business, commissioners authorized fire tax payments to Crestas Volunteer Fire Co. in the amount of $1,528.08 and to West Wilmerding Volunteer Fire Co. in the amount of $32,459.01. Commissioners also accepted the resignation of Kim Silvas effective May 1 from the township police Department.
