It appears development of the former Eastland Mall property will begin later than expected.
In an email to North Versailles Twp. officials, James Murray-Coleman, senior vice president for Trammell Crow Co., said the proposed tenant is looking at a “late summer start” as the firm acquires the necessary permits.
Work on the facility — a distribution center — was originally expected to begin in late June or early July. The main tenant is rumored to be Amazon, but no official announcement has been made.
In other business, township commissioners report that the library and community center have both reopened to the public.
North Versailles Library patrons can now use the computers and check out books in person for the first time since March 2020. The library is open Monday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The summer reading program “Tails and Tales,” which runs through July 31, remains virtual but there are a number of scheduled events for readers of all ages. For more information go to northversailleslibrary.org.
With the recent reopening of the municipal building on Greensburg Avenue, the North Versailles Seniors’ Group Bingo has resumed in the community center. The bingos are held each Thursday and doors open at 9:30 a.m. and bingo games start at 11 a.m.
At the June meeting, township commissioners authorized payments to the Crestas Volunteer Fire Dept. in the amount of $17,384.47, West Wilmerding Volunteer Fire Co. in the amount of $1,428.23 and the Fire Department of North Versailles in the amount of $65,050.84 from the 2020-21 Fire Tax Money.
According to Township Manager Patricia Logo, the FDNV delays collecting its fire tax money in order to use it for their large truck payment.
Also at the township meeting, Phil Hathaway was promoted from part-time to full-time police officer effective June 27.
