The eastbound lane of the Jerome Avenue Bridge will be closed Friday night — weather-permitting — so that crews can conduct bridge deck placement work.

The westbound lanes are currently closed and will remain closed through November.

A district spokesman for the state Department of Transportation said the eastbound lane, toward Downtown McKeesport from 10th Ward, is scheduled to reopen by 8 a.m. Saturday.

The posted detour includes Ramp One, River Road, the 15th Avenue Bridge and Walnut Street.

The Jerome Avenue Bridge is in the middle of a $15.44 million rehabilitation project that began in summer 2020. The work, scheduled to conclude in 2022, includes a new concrete deck and sidewalk, barrier repairs, full painting, structural steel repairs, concrete substructure repairs, bearing replacement and new expansion dams.

The Joseph B. Fay Co. is the prime contractor.
