New Board Members Take Seats in EA

There are five new faces on the East Allegheny School Board. At the Dec. 6 reorganization meeting, new members were sworn in and took their seats.
Superintendent Alan Johnson thanked the outgoing board of directors for their service. “I do really truly understand what a commitment it is and oftentimes what a thankless task it is,” he said.
The first big task of this new board of directors will be to tackle the district’s masking policy. In light of the recent decision by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to overrule the governor’s state mask mandate, the topic will be on the agenda at the next school board meeting which will be held on Jan. 10.
Until then, masking remains a requirement at Logan Elementary, the junior-senior high school and school buses.
Geremy Goldstein now represents Region 7 which Frank Pearsol served for the past 16 years. Cortney Verner occupies the Region 2 seat which Steve Volpe held for 12 years.
Robert Trout is the new Region 3 director. He replaces Alan Eichler who began his board tenure back in 2015 along with Connie Rosenbayger, whose resignation was announced at the November board meeting.
At a special school board meeting held on Dec. 2, Dan Ziober was appointed to represent Region 6 which was formerly served by Rosenbayger.
Erik Meredith was sworn in to represent Region 4. That seat was previously held by Dr. Richard King who was appointed back in 2018 when school director Adam Homer resigned.
Director John Savinda was re-appointed to serve as school board of directors president for 2021-22. Tisha Thomas was appointed vice-president and Verner is the new board treasurer.
