North Versailles Twp. employees who get or have received their COVID-19 vaccination will receive a $100 bonus.
Township commissioners unanimously approved the bonus at their January meeting. Also approved were five paid days off for employees who contracted COVID-19 if they were vaccinated prior to Dec. 31, 2021.
The additional days are valid through March 31, 2022.
Township Solicitor Greg Evashavik said the vaccination policy is designed to encourage employees to get vaccinated and reduce their risk of exposure to serious illness from COVID-19.
“We’re going to have an actual written policy so people can look at it and every employee understands it is the same for everyone,” he said.
In other business, commissioners set the salary for new township manager Joseph Varhola at $90,000. Varhola previously served as Munhall’s borough manager for six years.
Varhola replaced longtime manager Patricia Logo, who retired effective Jan. 28.
Varhola’s salary contains an additional $4,000 in lieu of township-provided health insurance.
At the beginning of January’s meeting, Logo was presented with a plaque thanking her for dedication to North Versailles.
“[This is] for all the years of service she has given us,” Commission President Frank Bivins said. “She has really been a God-send and we want to award her with this plaque for our appreciation for all the work she has done here.”
