Registration is now open for the first-ever Going for the Goal Sprint Triathlon in McKeesport on June 26.

Benefiting the Kiwanis Club of McKeesport-White Oak and McKeesport Trail Council, the event will offer participants the opportunity to test their endurance with a quarter-mile swim at McKeesport Area High School, a 5-kilometer foot race through Renziehausen Park, and a nearly nine-mile bike ride on the city’s streets and bicycle trail.

A spokesman said the event will help support local programs benefiting children and improvements to the McKeesport section of the Great Allegheny Passage.

Participants may register online for this event at the RunSignUp website. The cost of participating in the triathlon is $50 for individuals and $90 for tag-teams.

Individuals, groups and businesses interested in volunteer opportunities are also encouraged to contact triathlon organizers.

In addition, sponsorships are available at the $100, $250, $500 and $1,000 levels, and all sponsors will have their name listed on event T-shirts and sponsor boards. Additional recognition is also available with increased levels of support, and the McKeesport Hospital Foundation is serving as fiscal agent for the triathlon.
