Principal at Logan will serve in new role for one year
The principal of Logan Elementary School has been named acting superintendent of the East Allegheny School District.
At a special board meeting on June 26, Joseph Dilucente was hired to fill the role for one year, starting July 1.
The appointment was necessary after the school board voted in February not to renew former Superintendent Alan Johnson’s contract, which expired June 30.
Although Johnson was not present at the special board meeting, Toni Valicenti, board secretary and director of fiscal affairs, thanked him for his efforts to lead the district during the COVID pandemic.
“He was always a gentleman, a professional, and helped us along with a rough time with COVID and so forth, so I wish him all the best as well,” she said.
Dilucente has been the Principal of Logan Elementary School since October 2022.
According to his LinkedIn page, he is the founder and lead consultant for English Language Starts, LLC. Founded in 2018, the company provides support and services for educational institutions’ English as a Second Language, or ESL, programs.
His experience as a former ESL teacher prompted him to promote student access to all educational opportunities through ESL curriculums.
Dilucente has already made himself known in his new position as he attended a vigil held on July 6 for 1-year-old Arionna Porter, who was struck and killed in the parking lot of Eastland Apartments in North Versailles Twp.
Her 8-year-old brother attends Logan Elementary School, where Dilucente was the former principal. He assured the family that district resources, like the child’s teacher and school counselor, are available immediately if needed, even though school is closed over the summer.
There was no school board meeting in July. The next regular school board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 14. The EA school board meetings are now being live-streamed and recorded on YouTube.
