A 15-year-old from Wilmerding was found dead Tuesday night following a shooting in the borough.

Dillan Shearer, a student at East Allegheny High School, was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, Allegheny County homicide detectives said. He was pronounced dead just after 11:30 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

The incident happened in the 300 block of Patton Street, police said.

In a message sent to parents Wednesday, East Allegheny School District confirmed that Shearer was a student at the high school. Acting Superintendent Joe DiLucente called the news “devastating.”

"Our hearts are broken and we pray for the family and all affected by this act of violence," DiLucente said. The district will have grief counselors available for students and staff, he said, and North Versailles Twp. police were patrolling the high school campus for additional safety.

"While school will go on, our grief will remain,” DiLucente said. “We will stay strong as we navigate through this very sad and unfortunate situation.”

Homicide detectives are investigating but have not yet released any further information about the motive for the shooting, or any possible suspects.

Anyone with information concerning the shooting is asked to call the county police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
