East McKeesport Will Re-Bid Stormwater Project

A newly-received state grant prompted the East McKeesport Borough Council to reject a bid for a portion of a storm water project and they will now seek bids for the entire project.

Borough Engineer Laura Branthoover of Glenn Engineering & Associates Ltd. told the council that the borough recently received a $100,000 Small Water and Sewer Grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) for the Ice Plant Hill Project.

The project is designed to address storm water issues on the two-lane roadway by cleaning out some existing drainage pipes and adding additional collection inlets.

Branthoover said the borough already had a $200,000 Local Share Account (LSA) grant financed with state gaming revenue and a $100,000 community development grant also from the state. With those funds, the borough had sought bids for a portion of the project.

With the new funds, however, the borough will seek new bids for the entire project. Thus, Branthoover recommended that the council reject a bid it had received for a portion of the project and the council voted 6-0 to do so with Council President John Ekiert absent.
