Three people, including two crew members of McKeesport Ambulance Rescue Service, were injured Sunday evening in a collision at the intersection of Stewart and Soles streets.

McKeesport police are investigating the incident, which occurred as the ambulance was responding to a house fire in the 2700 block of Dinsmore Street.

MARS Chief Bill Miller said the 2019 Ford ambulance had just left the station on Evans Avenue and was eastbound on Stewart when it was struck broadside on the driver’s side by another vehicle.

Dravosburg volunteer firefighters and White Oak Emergency Medical Service responded to the scene.

Both occupants of the ambulance and the driver of the other car were taken to area hospitals for treatment, Miller said. The ambulance crew members were treated and released overnight.

Their names were not released.

Miller said the ambulance was heavily damaged and is expected to be a total loss.

Continuing problems with supply chains that began during the COVID-19 pandemic mean that it could be some time before a new ambulance can be obtained, Miller said. He said he spent a significant amount of time on Monday trying to locate a used ambulance that could be pressed into service.

MARS currently has three ambulances on the road. The agency also serves Duquesne, Port Vue and Dravosburg.
