A Braddock woman faces homicide charges in connection with the death on Saturday night of an East Hills man.

Latiya D. Hicks, 24, is being held in the Allegheny County Jail pending a preliminary hearing April 12 in Pittsburgh Muncipal Court. She is charged with fatally shooting Lamont Nichols, 30, of Pittsburgh inside an apartment on North Second Street in Duquesne.

Allegheny County police said that Hicks was arrested at the scene.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed in Allegheny County Night Court, when Duquesne police officers asked “where is the shooter?” Hicks identified herself and directed them to her handbag, where a 9-mm handgun was found.

Police said Hicks purchased the gun legally in 2023.

The criminal complaint states that Duquesne police were dispatched just after 6 p.m. Saturday when callers to 9-1-1 reported a man had been shot.

According to police, a resident of an apartment building on North Second Street arrived home Saturday with Nichols and found Hicks and another woman inside her apartment without permission.

The two women were known to the resident, police said, and the second woman had a past relationship with Nichols that had resulted in a daughter.

Due to past disputes, the resident told Hicks and the other woman they were not welcome, and the resident asked them to leave, according to the complaint.

An argument ensued, police said, and when Nichols attempted to intervene, the complaint alleges that Hicks pulled the 9-mm pistol from her bag and shot him once.

Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
