UPDATE: The name of the victim was released Monday, April 15. This story has been updated.

More than a week after a man was found shot to death just off Evans Avenue, Allegheny County investigators have released few details.

After multiple requests for comment, the Allegheny County medical examiner’s office on Monday (April 15) confirmed that the victim was Yancey Felder, 26, who died in the emergency room of UPMC Presbyterian hospital, Oakland, just before 7:30 p.m. April 5.

Court records show addresses for Felder in the Penn Hills area.

In a prepared statement, Allegheny County police said 9-1-1 received a call just before 6:30 p.m. April 5 that a shooting had occurred near the southern entrance to UPMC McKeesport hospital.

First responders found an adult male victim suffering from gunshot wounds, police said. The victim, later identified as Felder, was transported to UPMC Presbyterian where he was pronounced deceased, police said.

Names of victims are generally not released until next-of-kin are notified, but a delay of 10 days is unusual. Kasey Reigner, a spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office, did not return messages seeking comment on the delay.

Allegheny County police spokesperson Jim Madalinsky said the investigation remains active but that release of the victim’s name would be up to the medical examiner’s office.

“Detectives believe this incident was domestic in nature and there is no threat to the public,” Madalinsky said.

Obituary information for Felder was incomplete at press time but was in care of House of Law, Inc., 9406 Frankstown Road, Penn Hills.

Anyone with information about the case has been asked to call the Allegheny County police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous.
