Two children were critically injured Monday afternoon after they fell from a third-story window in a White Oak apartment building, Allegheny County police said.

Emergency personnel said a 6-year-old boy fell from a window at the Lincoln School Apartments in the 1700 block of Ohio Avenue just after 3 p.m. Minutes later — as police and emergency responders were en route — a 3-year-old girl fell from the same window.

The girl was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, Lawrenceville, emergency personnel said. The boy was transported by ambulance. Their names were not released.

Allegheny County police are investigating.

Neighbors said the distance from the window to the ground is at least a 30-foot drop. They told Pittsburgh’s WTAE-TV and WPXI-TV that they had previously complained about maintenance conditions at the apartment building.

At least one of the windows was broken on Monday night and covered with plastic.

Allegheny County tax records indicate that the 16-unit property is owned by Brandywine Communities of North Versailles Twp.

Anyone with information concerning the incident is asked to call the county police tip line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous.
