Leonard Evagues and Donald Lennon have both been re-appointed to the Duquesne’s Zoning Hearing Board.

At this month’s meeting, council approved appointments for Evagues, whose term will expire on Dec. 31, 2026, and Lennon, whose term ends on Dec. 31, 2027.

In other business, plans for the Duquesne Community Day parade are being finalized. The parade is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 3, beginning at the corner of Fourth and Grant streets and proceeding upwards toward Polish Hill Park.

Councilman Aaron Adams reported that there was nothing significant to report from the city’s water department. Consumer Confidence Report information is being included in all customers’ water bills this month.

Councilman Derek Artim said that the city’s bank statements “look good” and “bills have been sent out.”

Treasurer Maureen Strahl said that so far the city has collected $1.4 million in property taxes, 70 percent of what is owed. She called that a good sign.

Police Chief Tom Shaw reported that Officer William Spangler was injured on the job and would be taking some time off.

Mayor R. Scott Adams reported that he had received a message from Matthew Bolton, executive director of Rainbow Kitchen in Homestead, about working together on a project to better the city as well as the entire Mon Valley community.

The third-annual Duquesne Children’s Business Fair will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. July 27 at Polish Hill Park. The event is organized by Acton Academy, the Acton School of Business and How To HR.

Mayor Adams said he talked with Pastor Dorothy Stubbs of New Evangelistic Ministries at 312 Viola St. about a back to school lunch luncheon on Aug. 17.  He also noted that the church is hosting a “Bountiful Blessings” program on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 5 to 7 p.m. The church will be giving away free toiletries, household items and more at the corner of Viola and Kennedy.

Duquesne’s July 23 and Aug. 6 city council meetings are cancelled due to summer recess.
