A Beaver County man who asked a juvenile for help charging his cell phone forced his way into the family’s home in Highland Grove and assaulted a resident, then fled and threatened a neighbor with a knife, according to police.
Trey Fosnaught, 31, of Beaver Falls is being held in the Allegheny County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond after McKeesport police arrested him on the night of Nov. 12 for allegedly breaking into a home on Highland Avenue, then attempting to enter another house in the 2100 block of Bowman Avenue.
According to a criminal complaint, police were called to the Highland Avenue residence after a man, identified by police as Fosnaught, knocked on the door and asked a child who answered if he could charge his cell phone.
The child agreed to charge the phone, but while the man waited outside, he began pounding on the front door and demanding to come inside, the complaint said.
The child went to an upstairs bedroom, locked himself in, and called his mother, who was nearby, police said. According to the affidavit, Fosnaught is accused of kicking down the door and entering the residence. Police said the child’s mother returned home and confronted Fosnaught, who is accused of assaulting her before fleeing the scene.
The complaint states that as police were processing the crime scene, another call came in about a suspicious individual one block away on Bowman Avenue. Police arrived to find the suspect, Fosnaught, on the front porch of a home there, holding a folding knife and engaged in an altercation with another man.
Police took Fosnaught into custody at gunpoint, according to the complaint, and he was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Eugene Riazzi Jr.
Fosnaught is charged by McKeesport police with burglary, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, loitering and prowling at night and possession of instruments of crime. He faces a preliminary hearing Dec. 9 before Riazzi.
