Mission: Agape is searching for a few angels to help make its annual toy drive a success and spread Christmas joy to children in need from the McKeesport Area School District.
“We believe in serving our communities with unconditional, selfless and sacrificial love,” said Kelly Doyle, co-founder. The charity is known for assisting local families that experience food insecurity and hardship, while providing self-sustaining solutions.
According to the state Department of Education, about 62.5 percent of school-age children in McKeesport Area School District are classified as “economically disadvantaged” and about 35 percent are below the poverty line.
Last year, Doyle said, Mission Agape distributed 5,000 gifts to 1,200 children.
Unwrapped gifts for ages 1-18 years old are being accepted until Dec. 15 at any one of the distribution boxes in local businesses.
McKeesport Area High School students decorated toy distribution boxes and they being placed in a number of businesses in the area, Doyle said.
Toy drop-off locations include Patti’s Pasticceria (bakery), Patti’s La Cucina (pizza), Faith Lutheran Church, PSK Auto, Kyner’s Korner Bar, Di’s Kornerstone Diner, Lampert’s Market, Eagle Rental, Moontique, Allegheny Spine and Wellness, Versailles Croatian Club, Park Baptist Church, Bridge City Church and The UPS Store in White Oak.
“Every donation goes directly to a MASD child," said Doyle.
Monetary donation can be made online at www.mission-agape.org/about. In person donations are accepted at 1201 Prescott St., White Oak, PA 15131, Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, and checks should be written out to Mission: Agape.
