McKeesport’s 39th annual Festival of Trees opened Thursday afternoon with more than 90 decorated holiday displays representing different groups and organizations in the Mon-Yough area.

Hours are 12 noon to 9 p.m. daily through Dec. 9. The festival is located in the newly renovated Jacob Woll Pavilion in Renziehausen Park.

Admission is $2. Children 12 and under who bring a canned good or non-perishable food for donation to a local food pantry are admitted for free.

“The Festival of Trees is a beautiful event,” McKeesport Mayor Michael Cherepko said. “Not only does it bring McKeesporters together in celebration of the holiday spirit, but it allows each of our local organizations, student clubs, churches and other participating groups to share their mission and creativity with our community.”

Students from Auberle will staff a concession stand that includes a variety of soups, sandwiches, hot cocoa, and more, while the Semper Fidelis Club of McKeesport will conduct a bake sale.

At 6:15 p.m. tonight (Dec. 5), Santa Claus will arrive on a McKeesport fire truck, and Mikey Dee will perform holiday favorites on the stage.

Organizers will feature “Mistletoe Melodies” with the McKeesport Little Theater at 7 p.m. Friday.

Saturday’s activities include a “Hot Chocolate Happy Hour” with face-painting and karaoke from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, and CP Music at 6 p.m.

Sunday will feature “Photos with Bumble” at 4 p.m. and Miss Vickie’s Strings at 6 p.m.

The event will close Monday with caroling by students from the Young Scholars of Greater Allegheny academy at 12 noon, the Serra Catholic High School music department at 3 p.m., students from Twin Rivers Elementary School at 6 p.m. and the Mon Yough Chorale at 6:30 p.m.

Santa Claus also will be available to speak with area children, and weather-permitting, hay rides will be held in Renzie Park.

The nearby McKeesport Regional History & Heritage Center and the Garden Club of McKeesport also have holiday hours during the Festival of Trees.
