The Paramount TV series “Mayor of Kingstown” has returned to the Mon Valley and is shooting scenes in McKeesport, Port Vue and other nearby locations.
Crews were expected to be on the scene at multiple locations today (Feb. 12), Thursday and Feb. 18. A city spokesperson said that the producers have asked that filming locations be kept confidential to minimize disruptions.
Periodic street closures are possible, the spokesperson added. Locations will include both residential and commercial areas. The city will be reimbursed for police overtime, parking and other expenses, the mayor’s office said.
Port Vue police announced that the 15th Avenue Bridge and River Road also were closed temporarily this morning for use by the production. A portion of the third season was filmed at the ELG Metals plant, located under the 15th Avenue Bridge.
McKeesport and Port Vue emergency officials asked motorists to be patient and find alternate routes.
City officials said they did not know which of the series’ stars, if any, would be on location at any given time.
“Kingstown” filmed on Tuesday at the Bedford Dwellings housing complex in Pittsburgh’s Hill District, according to the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh.
The authority thanked the producers on Facebook and said “Kingstown” has used other properties since the second season of the show.
“Since then, the companies have contributed approximately $100,000 in support of our nonprofit Clean Slate E3 Scholarship Program for HACP youth,” the housing authority said. “In addition to providing direct support to our organization’s nonprofit, the companies have hired local food trucks, including locally-owned Quick-E, to supply food for the cast, crew, and especially HACP residents, as well as hire residents to act as paid extras.”
The crime series, which debuted in 2021, is now in its fourth season. It stars Jeremy Renner as the political fixer of a small city in Michigan where the main employer is a prison complex.
Renner and his family mediate disputes between gangs, police officers, prison guards and prisoners. The series has been popular despite mixed reviews from critics.
“Mayor of Kingstown” is a production of MTV Entertainment Studios, Bosque Ranch Productions, 101 Studios and Square Head Pictures. Season 3 concluded in August 2024. No date has been publicly announced for the debut of Season 4, being filmed now.
