An anonymous call to a police tip line led to the arrest of a Duquesne man in connection with a fatal shooting in a local bar on Friday night.

Marvin P. Harpool, 51, is being held in the Allegheny County Jail without bond pending a preliminary hearing June 27 after Allegheny County police charged him with shooting to death Tywone McClain, 26, of Duquesne inside a club in the 700 block of Grant Avenue.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Allegheny County night court, just after 11:30 p.m. Friday, McClain was arguing with another bar patron when a man identified by police as Harpool allegedly intervened.

Police said surveillance video from inside the bar shows the alleged shooter approach McClain, push him, and then put a pistol to his head and pull the trigger.

Video then shows the shooter leaving the scene, along with the other bar patron involved in the incident, police said.

McClain was pronounced dead about two hours later at UPMC Mercy hospital of Pittsburgh, Uptown, according to the medical examiner’s office.

On Saturday, according to the criminal complaint, police said an anonymous caller to the Allegheny County Police Tipline identified the shooter as Harpool.

Then, police said, several witnesses came forward and said that the shooter, who one customer knew only as “Tiny,” had been in the bar before and had gotten into arguments with other patrons.

Police said two witnesses who were shown a photo array of possible suspects picked Harpool as the man who they saw shooting McClain inside the bar.

Harpool is charged by Allegheny County police with criminal homicide and unlawful possession of a firearm. He was arrested Tuesday by Allegheny County police and sheriff’s deputies, police said in a prepared statement.
