A Port Vue man was killed Wednesday in a motorcycle accident in White Oak, emergency personnel said.

Jake Wilson, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash in the 1200 block of Long Run Road (Route 48) just after 1 a.m. Wednesday, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office said.

Allegheny County police said 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call at 1:18 a.m. that a man was lying in the road just south of Lincoln Way. First responders found the victim, later identified as Wilson, dead at the scene.

Detectives from the county police Collision Reconstruction and Homicide units responded. Preliminary information indicates that Wilson was riding a street-legal “dirt bike” that collided with a guard rail.

In a statement on social media, Port Vue Vigilant Hose Co. No. 1 expressed its condolences to Wilson’s family and friends and said that he was the son of former fire chief and current chaplain Tim Wilson and a volunteer firefighter with the department.

The statement referred to Wilson as “dependable, humble and kind.”

“As a little kid, he learned to count by truck numbers and could roll hose long before tying his shoes,” the department said. “As a teenager, he stood shoulder-to-shoulder with seasoned firefighters, never saying much—just doing. If a rig needed restocking, Jake’s fingerprints were already on the gear. If there was a mess, he’d cleaned it before anyone noticed.”

County police said anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call the county police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous.
