If you have tires, old appliances or other hard-to-recycle items in your garage or basement, Pennsylvania Resources Council has an event for you.
The non-profit group, in partnership with the Allegheny County Health Department, will host two events to collect hard-to-recycle items such as electronic waste, tires and small Freon appliances.
Aug. 2, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Elizabeth Forward Middle School, 401 Rock Run Road, Elizabeth Twp.
Aug. 23, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Boyce Park, 754 Center Road, Plum
For a $5 fee, individuals may drop off cell phones, home phones, computers and peripherals (keyboards, laptops, mice), foam packing material, microwave ovens, video game consoles and DVD players.
For an additional fee, individuals can recycle televisions and computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances (such as small refrigerators) and tires (with and without rims).
Visit PRC’s website to view a complete list.
Since 2010, it has been illegal to dispose of e-waste with household garbage. It has been illegal to send whole tires to landfills since 1996.
Participants must register in advance at www.prc.org/CollectionEvents or by calling (412) 488-7490.
The final two 2025 hard-to-recycle collections in Allegheny County will take place Sept. 27 at Settlers Cabin Park and Oct. 11 in Quaker Valley.
The 2025 PRC hard-to-recycle collection campaign is sponsored by Allegheny County Health Department, Allegheny County Parks Department, Colcom Foundation, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, 11 Cares, Pennsylvania American Water, Quaker Valley Council of Governments, Styropek, and WESA (90.5 FM) and WYEP (91.3 FM).
