One driver is dead and another was hospitalized following a two-car crash in East McKeesport on Friday night.

Allegheny County police said two vehicles collided just before 7 p.m. on Fifth Avenue between East McKeesport and Wilmerding.

The crash occurred on a curving stretch of road near the Penn Avenue cut-off to South Wilmerding.

At least one driver was entrapped and had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters and paramedics, emergency personnel said.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said Brian Jackson, 45, of Swissvale was taken to AHN Forbes Hospital where he died about two hours after the crash. The other driver’s name was not released by police. He was taken to the hospital, police said.

There were no passengers in either vehicle, police said.

Fifth Avenue between Patton Street and Woodmont Avenue was closed for several hours during the investigation, according to first-responders.

Preliminary information shows the vehicles were traveling towards each other on Fifth Avenue when the collision occurred, police said.

Firefighters and paramedics from United Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Fire Department of North Versailles, Forest Hlls and Wilmerding responded to the scene, county dispatchers said.

Allegheny County Police homicide detectives and collision reconstruction experts are investigating. Anyone with information concerning the crash may call the county police Tip Line at 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous.
